Standing Up for the Environment
As Mayor of Avoca, Jim Haddock discovered that Kerr-McGee Corporation was dumping toxic chemicals into our air, land and water, poisoning our communities. The company said what they were doing was safe, but they were really exposing our children and families to dangerous carcinogens. People started getting sick and some even died as a result of their decades of negligence.
Jim took on the Kerr-McGee organization after they created an environmental disaster and exposed our residents to deadly carcinogens for decades. Jim spearheaded the effort to hold Kerr-McGee accountable, filing an official complaint with the Department of Environmental Protection and a lawsuit to bring justice for those in Avoca and beyond. His work resulted in a historic settlement with compensation totalling over $5 billion dollars.
Jim Haddock stood up to the powerful corporate polluter and led efforts to hold Kerr-McGee accountable for the harm they caused. He fought like hell and got justice for over 5,000 residents of our local community and countless communities across the United States. As our Representative, Jim Haddock has used this same fighting spirit and commitment to justice to do what’s right for us in Harrisburg.
